SRL OVERVIEW

DISTAL GOAL:

Create a teachable video-conference based IELTS course to accompany an IELTS textbook for students based in China.

Proximal Goals:

Locate and research IELTS resources, textbook, practice tests, reach out to IELTS experts.

Meet with potential student and assess timeline for test and willingness to partake in course.

Coach prospective student until their test date.

Submit Courseware to company and have it implemented into regular lessons.

I had some trouble choosing my distal goal. At first I wanted to use a personal goal that I could delineate myself and have most of the power over success or failure. However, when I realized that I had this opportunity to develop myself professionally and improve the lesson content of my colleagues I decided to follow a professional goal. This goal was very difficult, but that is part of what Schunk (2001) recommended for the goal. The other benefits are its specific ness and that it will help me to further develop my professional career and be in a situation where I'm using my SRL strategies in a relevant way.
